Who is it for?

Takalamu is for you if…

Four profiles, one goal: understanding and speaking Arabic.

You're starting from scratch

You can decode the Arabic alphabet — even slowly — but you've never built a sentence. Takalamu takes you by the hand: every word is fully vocalized and translated, with transliteration as support. You start by introducing yourself, greeting, thanking — sentences you can use today.

You read the Quran without understanding it

You read the Quran, but the meaning of the words still escapes you. With Takalamu, you discover the language inherited from the Quran: everyday vocabulary, prayer phrases, word roots. You won't understand everything — no app can honestly promise that — but you'll recognize more and more of the words you already recite. It's the first step.

You speak a dialect, not fuṣḥā

You understand Darija or another dialect at home, but fuṣḥā (Standard Arabic) is still a blur. Takalamu gives structure to what you already know: clear grammar, systematic tashkil and dialogues in Standard Arabic — the shared language of the Muslim world.

You've tried before… and stopped

Weekend classes, generic apps, textbooks: you've started several times without keeping it up. Here, spaced repetition (SRS) and the Resume mode are built for consistency: short sessions, a pace that adapts to you, and a refresher whenever you come back after a break.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about learning Arabic

Is Takalamu free?

Takalamu is a paid app, but you can try it for free. Create an account with no credit card and start the first circle "Me": the first lessons and part of the vocabulary are open so you can get a real feel for it. The Premium subscription then unlocks all 5 circles, the 90 lessons and the full lexicon.

How do you learn Arabic as a complete beginner?

Start small and stay consistent. On Takalamu, the path begins with introductions and greetings: short dialogues, fully vocalized, with transliteration and translation. You then practise each word through varied exercises, and the revision algorithm schedules your reviews. 10 to 15 minutes a day is enough to build a solid foundation.

Does Takalamu teach Standard Arabic or a dialect?

Standard Arabic (fuṣḥā): the language of the Quran, books and Islamic studies, understood across the Arab world. The goal is not to turn you into a scholar: Takalamu aims for the essentials — enough to express yourself day to day, then step into religious vocabulary to grasp its depth.

Do I need to read Arabic script before starting?

Yes — being able to decode the Arabic alphabet, even slowly, is the only prerequisite. Transliteration is displayed as support, but it does not replace reading. If you learned to read with the Quran, you are exactly where you need to be to start.

How long does it take to learn Arabic?

It mostly depends on your consistency. Arabic takes time, but the method is designed for visible progress early on: by the end of the first circle, you can introduce yourself and hold a simple exchange. Spaced repetition makes every minute of revision count — ten minutes every day beats one hour on Sunday.

What makes Takalamu different from other Arabic learning apps?

Three things. Context: dialogues rooted in everyday Muslim life, not random sentences. Precision: full tashkil and root exploration to understand how the language works. Memory: a revision algorithm that adapts to your real pace. All of it fully available in English.

Which devices does Takalamu work on?

Everywhere: Takalamu is a web app that installs like a native app on your phone (iPhone and Android) and also works on your computer. Your progress syncs automatically across devices.

Does Takalamu replace a teacher?

No, and that's not the goal. An app replaces neither a teacher nor practice with real people. Takalamu is the first step: you build your foundation — vocabulary, fluent reading, basic structures — independently and at your own pace, so you can later approach a class or a conversation with real footing.
